Watch Disney Animated Shorts Here Every Week
INFORMATION FOR THIS THREAD:
This idea is similar to the full-length movie one in the movies section.
Each week I will post a link to an animated short (Disney only of course) on youtube that people can watch and comment on if they want.
I put it in this Miscellaneous section, because I wasn't sure if it belonged in the film section as that seems to be purely for full-length features.

Anyways, I think this thread will be a great way for people to see shorts they haven't seen before. I know that there are a ton of shorts that I myself have not seen and perhaps there are other people who have yet
to see all the shorts, as there are a ton of them. It can be educational in that way as we can learn about Disney animated shorts together.
If I am away from the computer which will happen at times, anybody else can pick a short out at randomly and post it in here. It really doesn't
matter who picks as long as we have one for the week, so hopefully everybody will help out with that. If somebody wants to request a short we can do that too. It doesn't necessarily have to be random,
but if there aren't any requests that's the way I'll do it. I hope this will be fun for everybody.

For this first one I will not do it randomly, but only because it seems appropriate to start it off with Steamboat Willie.
So this week's animated short (7/25-7/31) will be:
Steamboat Willie (1928)
Although it was not actually the first animated cartoon made to feature Mickey Mouse technically, (Plane Crazy was and The Gallopin'
Gaucho was made before it even though it was released after) it was the first Disney film of any kind with synchronized sound. Even though a silent version of Plane Crazy came out before
Steamboat Willie, a sound version would later be released after the success of Steamboat Willie.

This short was first released at the Colony Theater in New York on November 18, 1928. As the silent Plane Crazy had not impressed audiences
many regard this as Mickey's true debut. Even the Disney company uses this date as Mickey's birthday (11/18/1928).
It is still one of the most popular, if not the most popular, of all animated Disney shorts.

So here is Steamboat Willie to start off this thread. I posted the youtube link above. I'm sure almost all of us have seen it
before, but it makes sense to go with this first.

This week's short (8/1-8/7) was picked entirely randomly from the long list of shorts. I have never seen or really even heard about it before, but
the short for this week is Pluto At The Zoo (1942)

I don't know a whole lot about it, having never even seen it, but this short of course stars Pluto and is apparently the first appearance for Ajax
the Gorilla from what I saw online (He later appears in Donald Duck And The Gorilla and possibly other shorts too). This appears to be the
ninth short to specifically star Pluto as far as the chronological order goes.
Anyways, here is Pluto At The Zoo. Hopefully, it is a fun short.

This week's short (8/8-8/14) was also picked completely randomly and is called Californy'er Bust.
I had never heard of it before, but apparently it is a 1945 short that stars our good friend Goofy.

I'm not sure if anybody else cares about this thread, but I'm going to keep it going and it will at least be a way for me to see shorts I haven't
seen yet if nobody else is interested
Watch Californy'er Bust here if anybody is interested:

There is a brief Leonard Maltin introduction and disclaimer to go along with it. Enjoy!

Oh cool. I'm glad that you like this thread too wendy.bird. If you ever want to suggest anything just let me know. Also, if I'm ever away for a week you can post whatever short you want here if
you would like. I will be happy if we have a short for every week in this thread. So far I am keeping up with it and have gotten in the habit of posting a random one on Sunday. Its becoming my cartoon short
day, haha. Anyways, I am glad that you are enjoying this too. As
time goes by we will have seen a good chunk of Disney shorts thanks to this.

This week's short (8/15-8/21) was again picked randomly and is The Fox Hunt from 1938.
This short stars Donald Duck and Goofy who go out to catch a fox as the title implies

For those interested in a little information about this short, it is actually a color remake of an earlier Disney short with the same name (The
Fox Hunt) from 1931. The 1931 version is a black and white Silly Symphony and has some similar scenes as this 1938 version. However, the 1931
version does not feature Goofy and Donald Duck (they weren't around at that time as it was), so some Disney fanatics might prefer this later version
with the popular comic duo of Donald and Goofy.
There are also very brief cameos of other Disney characters we will recognize in the short, but I won't spoil who shows up for those who want to
watch.
So here is the 1938 version of The Fox Hunt. Enjoy!

This week's short (8/22-8/28) will be Mickey Down Under It was picked at random as well. Yay, Mickey!
I don't know much about this short, but it is from 1948 and is set in Australia and stars Mickey as the title implies. We'll have to watch it to find out more!

Also, for this week I am including a fun Mouseketeer Mousekartoon introduction. Its a fun short song that can be a nice way to pump you up for watching the cartoon short for anybody who is interested.
The first youtube link below is the Mouseketeer Mousekartoon intro just for fun. The second one is the short of the week Mickey Down

The random short for this week (8/29 - 9/4) is Bee At The Beach.
Bee At The Beach is a short that was released on October 13, 1950 and it stars Donald Duck!

The short also features Spike the Bee. Spike was featured in seven different Disney shorts and was often paired with Donald Duck (they appear in six
shorts together) and occasionally with Pluto. Spike often likes to stir up trouble for Donald as will be seen in this short.
Without giving away anything else, here is the short for you to watch:

The short picked at random for this week (9/5- 9/11) is Chips Ahoy.
This Disney short is from 1956 and stars Donald Duck as well as Chip 'N' Dale!

This is the last of the original 23 shorts of the 40's and 50's that Chip 'N' Dale were in, although they later were brought back for Mickey's
Christmas Carol in 1983 and have appeared in a few features as well since then.
Anyways, here is Chips Ahoy for you to watch:
